Mabon thoughts from pagan photographer Kim Griffin

Slowly a dying hush like a blanket of mist falls across a sleepy earth. The descending darkness embraces the great mother and sleep calls her whispering on an autumn breeze. Trees bow down as she passes a last blaze of finery and coppery gold leaves slip gently floating to the ground a patchwork of a fading summer.

The best time of the year for me is autumn . A time to go inwards and reflect on the past year – roaring fires and darkness. Evenings lit by glowing candles and reading ghost stories. Walking in a silent woodland leaves crunching underfoot and the smell of the earth’s sleep. Spindly spiky boughs over head ghost-like against grey skies, always beautiful, somehow more evocative than summer.

Cosy Chat with Artist, Stu McLellan, The Sky Whale

I’ve loved Stu McLellan’s Sky Whales since the first time I saw one. Whales have always been hugely meaningful to me and Stu’s skyscape whales express their magic so beautifully. So I was delighted when Stu agreed to pop in for a cosy chat, to tell us all about the inspiration and journey of painting the Sky Whale and his gorgeous mandalas.

Stu McLellan is an artist and illustrator, living and working in Hertfordshire. His work, which encompasses books, magazines, community projects, festivals and his own growing body of work, shares a common theme – a sense of wonder at the world, and an intention to celebrate our connection to all life. He is open to all kinds of creative commissions. His most recent work can be found on Instagram @stusshed, is available to buy at www.etsy.com/uk/shop/stusshed, and at www.stumclellan.co.uk, and you can email him at stu.mclellan@virgin.net

The Blessings of Simple Gifts

As 2016 comes to a close, I realize how challenging this year has been. For myself, for the world, for many of my friends. And yet, in the midst of chaos, one of the greatest gifts I received was the clarity that the simplest accomplishments give me the most pleasure. Lifting a friend’s spirits. Creating a delicious meal. Writing by the glow of a candle. I am a person who typically overcomplicates life. My mind races ahead in the day to judge my progress before I take a single step. My ego believes I should be doing ten times what I have achieved. And my heart gets confused by the inordinate amount of pain and suffering in the world.
